It was so-so. I had 3 cups of coffee, it was delicious with cream and sugar. Scrambled eggs were not to my liking as it's almost as if they were precooked and put in a warmer as the outside was very dry and the centers were moist. Also I had a lemon ginger pancake that was tasty but a bit rubbery/chewy. The bacon was cooked perfectly and delicious. I had a beer that was good and mimosas. My partner had a salad that looked good and a sandwich. I ended up eating the sandwich the next day and I can tell you there was hardly anything but bread. I think it was ham and cheese but I'm not sure because I mostly tasted the bread which brings me to the bread. Their bread was fabulous, croissant, toast, French bread all Wonderful. All in all I felt the overall quality of the food did not meet the cost incurred, I would have been happy at Stacks. I must point out that La Note was very busy and we had to wait approximately 10 minutes out front. I'm not sure how much of an affect that has on the fare. I would try it one more time just to give them the benefit of the doubt.
I arrived and meters are free until 9am. I figured 40 minutes would be more than enough time for basic egg breakfast for a single diner. Service was a snails pace. Two other tables around me had their credits card on the table and the server was no where to be found. One of those customers got up and went to the bar to expedite paying for his meal. So I got up and I ordered to go instead. I offered to pay immediately but the host said I’d need to wait until the food was made. Almost 1/2 an hour goes by for 2 eggs, bacon, and a pancake. Finally it’s ready. I get the bill and they itemized my order to charge me $35!! for what should’ve been $21. I refused to pay that. And the server with the black long hair and facial hair just paced around complaining about Me?! When He was the one that didn’t do his job in the first place. He said he’d rather re-ring in all my food, remake it, and have he wait another 30 minutes because potatoes were in the Togo box that shouldn’t be.?! Last I checked, potatoes don’t cost $13. Unbelievable. I will never go here again. His attitude and lack of ability to keep up with his tables was bad enough. But to not even just correct the bill and take back the potatoes (if it’s that big of deal!) and then just to pace around huffing and puffing another 10 minutes was completely absurd. Do not recommend. Not worth the hassle.
What a lovely treasure of a park, tucked right into the Berkeley Hills. Beautiful, rambling gardens on the 10 acre ground offer plenty of benches to sit and breathe in the fragrant air while enjoy the scenery, or even a little picnic. It's an absolutely magical place. I can't wait to go back.
Food: 3/5 Service: 3.5/5 Ambiance 3.5/5 Overall: This place was packed and there was a slight wait for some standard fare food. The extended review… Food: Gingerbread Pancakes – 3/5 – I’ve been to a few places where I could compare the taste. The taste of the pancake was subtle and could have used a little more punch to it. Definitely could have used a little more pear as well. Bacon – 3.5/5 – A good serving of bacon and I appreciate that it was not crispy but chewy! Service: 3.5/5 – Friendly and attentive service. Ambiance: 3.5/5 – So this place was very cute inside and out. The only thing I’d say is that the inside was a little claustrophobic. Thankfully we sat outside in the patio which was very nice.
There is a reason this place is always busy! The food is uniquely French but also familiar and accessible...savory and scrumptious...light and hearty! Served in their beautiful back patio, the menu reads like a cafe in Paris! Slightly snobbish in the French spelling of all their menu items, i think to have it any other way wouldn't be able to do these delectable items justice! I had breakfast but would've been just as eager to select from their lunch menu. I rarely give an eatery a 5 ⭐ rating unless it is deserved and La Note truly hit all the right ones! If there's a wait.....stay,its worth it!
