I love her story. I salute Dominique Crenn...first female chef in the US to receive three Michelin Stars. And in 2021, Crenn was the recipient of the World's 50 Best Icon Award. I first wanted to experience this restaurant because I'm a foodie and I heard good things but then I happened to watch Chef's Table on Netflix and became even more interested. I finally was able to book a reservation and experience the food, ambiance and experience first hand. It exceeded my expectations. Sadly, Dominique wasn't in the night we were there and I was really hoping to meet her.
My experience here was extraordinary. Both Chef Dominique Crenn and Pastry Chef Juan Contreras have created a sensory dining experience — in my humble opinion — without peer. I feel as though I was transported to a dining fantasy world where beauty reigned and pleasant surprises came at almost every turn. Probably the biggest surprise was realizing that I didn’t miss meat at all. The Onion Soup broth will forever keep me wondering — how on earth did they make something so incredibly delicious? I strongly recommend the “Moveable Feast” option. Being transported next door to the beautiful Bar Crenn to finish off the evening with Chef Juan’s fantastic dessert creations was literally the “icing on the cake”.
I was disappointed for a Michelin 3 star restaurant. The food was overly smoked. For example the abalone flavor was not even perceptible due to the over smoking of the dish. This happened to several dishes. The quality of the food had no chance to shine. Recently I have dined at several Michelin 1 to 3 star places and this does not deserve the 3. Not worth the cost.
Exquisite cuisine. A beautiful representation of food by a wonderful chef. Each course was delicately prepared along with a greater purpose. The experience was delightful.
I first learned of Atelier Crenn watching the Chef's Table documentary years ago. After watching Dominique's episode I made it a point to one day dine here and it went beyond my expectations. We were celebrating a birthday, and the front of house staff made it a point to come by, introduce themselves and wish my partner a happy birthday. We went for the 14-course tasting menu with the recommended wine pairing, and it was a mind-blowing experience. A few things that were highly appreciated were not only the low intervals between each course, but also the explanations on how to go about enjoying each dish. That, along with the poem that ties to Crenn made the whole experience more personable. Once we were finished we were escorted into a secondary room to enjoy dessert. While making our way through, we were lucky enough to meet the chefs operating in the back. They literally dropped what they were doing in the middle of service and offered to take a picture with us! I can't imagine the stress and knock off effect something like this can have on a service, but apparently they've got it down. Once in the secondary area we were greeted by the dessert portion of the tasting menu. Finally at the end, we were also offered a small birthday token to top it all off. Any big occasion coming up and I'll be here.
